Job Summary

A very important line of service is that of the Bible instructor. They may be transferred from place to place as the work requires. They may be assigned to work in connection with an evangelistic effort, in which case they are under the immediate direction of the evangelist in charge of the effort, or they may be stationed in a city to labor in connection with a local church. In such a case they come under the immediate direction of the pastor of the church but are under the general direction of the Minnesota Conference administration. A conference Bible instructor should not, except by special arrangement with the conference, be asked to carry any church office but should be left free to carry on personal soul-winning work.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. The Bible instructor is to give Bible studies to individuals as needed.
  2. The Bible instructor is to train others in how to give Bible studies, including giving feedback as they learn.
  3. The Bible instructor is not a member of the church board, nor carries any other church office in order to be free to focus on Bible work.
  4. The Bible instructor is expected to support local pastors, the Minnesota Conference, and other church leaders in the various churches they may serve but may not officiate at the communion service and baptism unless ordained as a local church elder.
  5. The Bible instructor is expected to cooperate with the locally elected church officers and board.
  6. The Bible instructor may be appointed by the conference committee, which may be changed at any time, or may be funded by a local church or evangelist for specific periods of time, which may be changed at any time.

 

Expectations

  • Spiritual maturity: The Bible instructor is expected to model a deepening relationship with Christ through prayerful dependence, studying scripture, having a missionary mind-set, intentionally creating relationships, and modeling vibrant leadership, all of which produces living the fruits of the Spirit – Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-Control
  • Financial stability: The Bible instructor is expected to model stewardship to God and His church by teaching and personally giving to both tithe and the local church budget.
  • Give and receive Accountability: The Bible instructor is to model by example life-long learning through reading, attending seminars and learning from pastors, evangelists and administrators in relevant ways to teach the Bible.
  • Excellence, not perfection: The Bible instructor is to lead the church to do their very best in sharing Christ through Bible instruction, producing efficient and effective ministries for their members and surrounding community
  • Enthusiasm: The Bible instructor is expected to create an atmosphere of enthusiasm for Christ and His church thereby attracting local community members in a contagious, effective way.
  • Growth: The Bible instructor is expected to grow those under his/her care through old and new ways with the goal of increasing our sisterhood of churches and Christ’s kingdom in Minnesota 50% by 2021.

 

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Certified Bible Instructor from Adventist institution of learning.
  • Known track record of teaching others to give Bible studies.
  • Service Orientation – actively look for ways to help people in and out of the church(es).
  • Instructing – Teaching others how to use their spiritual gifts, passions and talents.
  • Speaking/preaching – The ability to talk to others to convey information effectively.
  • Planning/organizing – Ability to schedule and plan future events.
  • Analytical – Able to think through issues.
  • Problem solving – Ability to hear all sides of an issue and come to a collaborative conclusion.
  • Job motivation/initiative – Be able to work alone.
  • Time management – Ability to assess priorities.
  • Technology – Ability to easily use Microsoft Office on any type of computer – Windows, etc.
  • Must be a Seventh-day Adventist member, in good and regular standing, within six months, if transferring from outside this region.
  • Must be willing to contribute tithes and offerings to the local church

Typical Physical Demands.

Must be able to read, speak, and hear. Must be able to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. While performing the duties of this job, the Bible Instructor is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, walk, bend, kneel, and lift. The Bible Instructor may frequently be required to use stairs. The Bible Instructor is required to be able to lift and carry items that can weigh 25 pounds or more for short distances.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Working Conditions

The Bible Instructor position requires great flexibility in hours available for work, including evenings and weekends. The position is a full time, salaried position and while the salary is based upon a projected 40 hours per week, the actual number of hours required during any given week are those needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. Further, it is recognized that the schedule may vary at different times of the year.

All employees are expected to uphold the values of the local church, the Minnesota Conference and the Seventh-day Adventist church. Employees are missionaries, demonstrating a desire and a commitment to sharing the love of Christ with guests. Every act should be seen as a way to witness.
